Qantas has rolled out a major domestic flight sale targeting Queensland, offering Aussies the chance to escape to the Sunshine State for as little as $99 one-way. In collaboration with Tourism and Events Queensland, the national carrier announced the limited-time deal on Monday, with fares slashed for 72 hours only.
The sale comes in the wake of ex-tropical cyclone Alfred, which left parts of Queensland battered. Many of the destinations most affected by the severe weather event are now featured in the airline’s discounted routes — part of a broader push to revive tourism and inject support into the recovering regions.
Qantas Domestic CEO Markus Svensson emphasized Queensland’s enduring appeal. “Queensland destinations are among the most popular on our network, year after year. From the Gold Coast to the Whitsundays, the state offers the perfect mix of relaxation, adventure and family fun,” he said.
Among the standout deals are $99 one-way fares between Sydney and the Gold Coast, and Brisbane to Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast). Other heavily discounted routes include:
Melbourne to Gold Coast from $119
Sunshine Coast (Maroochydore) to Sydney from $125
Brisbane to Newcastle from $129
Sydney to Toowoomba from $129
Though the sale window is tight—lasting only three days—eligible travel dates span from 19 May to 10 December 2025, offering flexibility for both quick getaways and long-term planning.
This aggressive pricing follows Virgin Australia’s recent fare war, where tickets to Queensland hubs were briefly available from as low as $45. While that sale has ended, Qantas’ move is part of a collective industry effort to stimulate travel into regions still recovering from cyclone damage.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate remains optimistic about the upcoming holiday period, assuring visitors that most of the region’s iconic beaches will be back in shape in time. Dredging and restoration efforts have been ramped up, with infrastructure repairs already underway.
“We’re working hard to get our coastline holiday-ready,” Mayor Tate told 7News. “If 80% of the beaches aren’t open by Easter, I’ll buy every tourist a beer.”
With enticing fares, sun-drenched destinations, and a resilient Queensland ready to welcome back visitors, this is shaping up to be a travel opportunity too good to miss.
