“Israel stands strong with you.” This was the core pledge from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to India following a tragic blast that killed eight people in Delhi. His message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of absolute solidarity.
“To our dear friend Narendra Modi… Sara and I, and the people of Israel, send our deepest condolences,” the statement began. Netanyahu offered support “in sorrow and in strength” as India mourns the victims.
The Israeli leader delivered a defiant message against the perpetrators. “Terror may strike our cities, but it will never shake our souls,” he said. He celebrated the “unyielding spirit” of the two “ancient civilisations.”
The blast, which occurred on Monday evening near the Red Fort, involved a Hyundai i20. The incident is now being investigated as a “terrorist attack” by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The NIA has registered a case and is probing a suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad module, according to top sources. The agency is coordinating with other security units to trace the network responsible.
