Beijing: US Provoking “New Economic Frictions” in Trade Row

by admin477351

Beijing has accused the United States of “unilaterally provok[ing] new economic and trade frictions” despite a recently established tariff truce. China specifically points to U.S. restrictions on AI chip exports and planned revocations of Chinese student visas as breaches of the agreed-upon consensus. This new wave of criticism threatens to escalate the trade conflict and undermine the fragile 90-day negotiating period.
The Chinese Commerce Ministry released a statement on Monday, asserting that the U.S. practices “seriously violate the consensus” reached to de-escalate tariffs and restart stalled trade. This agreement, initially seen as a positive step towards resolving the protracted trade dispute, is now facing significant challenges as underlying strategic competitions resurface.
China claims it has upheld its commitments by canceling or suspending its own retaliatory tariffs and non-tariff measures. However, Beijing argues that the U.S. has acted unilaterally to exacerbate uncertainty and instability in bilateral economic and trade relations. The ministry’s warning of “resolute and forceful measures” to protect its interests suggests that China is prepared for further confrontation.
