OpenNebula Systems has unveiled the latest version of its cloud and virtualization platform, OpenNebula 7.4 “Helix,” which is set to enhance enterprise cloud management and address the increasing demands of AI infrastructure. This release introduces a revamped Sunstone management interface, designed to provide a more efficient and user-friendly experience for cloud administrators. Among the new features are improved navigation, resource inspection tools, reorganized settings, and GUI-based management of VirtioFS, all aimed at streamlining daily cloud operations.

In a bid to boost automation, OpenNebula 7.4 incorporates OneSwap for bulk VMware migrations and enhanced OneDRS resource scheduling. The platform also offers intelligent datastore selection, storage migration, and advancements in OneKS for managed Kubernetes deployments. These enhancements assist organizations in modernizing their infrastructure while minimizing operational complexities.

The update is particularly significant for AI and high-performance computing workloads, as it includes support for Axelera AI accelerators and native NVIDIA GPU integration within the Slurm appliance. Additionally, it offers automated Bare Metal as a Service (BMaaS) orchestration via the NVIDIA Infrastructure Controller (NICo). Networking advancements feature VLAN Group-level authorization and Open vSwitch Switchdev support, contributing to enhanced performance and secure multi-tenant environments.

Moreover, OpenNebula 7.4 enhances backup and data protection through updates to the OpenNebula Backup Exporter (OneBEX), introducing Selected Disk Backups and providing production-ready support for Ubuntu 26.04. The release also includes improvements across storage, monitoring, networking, high availability, and VMware compatibility areas.

Concurrent with the platform update, OpenNebula Systems has launched OpenNebula Apps (OneApps) 7.4.0, which offers updated virtual appliances, AArch64 support for OneKS, compatibility with Alpine Linux 3.24, and deployment enhancements for enterprise cloud environments. According to the company, the new version is designed to simplify cloud operations, expedite infrastructure modernization, and support the development of AI-powered private and sovereign cloud solutions.
